Ian Jarvis - On the run again
Round Midnight arts worker Ian Jarvis is at it again, he's running the Edinburgh Marathon 2008 for Myeloma UK.
Ian said "Myeloma UK have given invaluable support and guidance in our fight to reverse the decision not to prescribe Velcade, a drug deemed 'not cost effective' enough to prolong my mom's life. The change of policy by NICE (National Institute of Clinical Excellence) came not a moment too soon as my mom became very ill last autumn and spent several days in intensive care, before pulling through once again to come home and ask what all the fuss was about. Access to Velcade has not only kept my mom around in time to meet her first grand daughter, it's also improved her quality of life. It's worked far more effectively than we'd ever hoped and now she feels feels well enough and strong enough to live a more normal life. Multiple Myeloma is incurable and in time the remission Velcade has allowed will come to an end, but that time is like gold dust to us and Myeloma UK have played no small part in bringing it about."
Ian completed last years Edinburgh Marathon and raised £2720.00 but hopes to raise even more this year.
