Suffering Children in Power

We have been commisoned by Suffering Children in Power to produce a piece of Theatre in Education that responds to the issues of physical and sexual abuse. The piece is being written by Gwen Williams.

The TIE piece communicates the realities of abuse (physical, sexual, emotional or neglect) in child/ adolescent friendly terms, along with constructive options open to children when abuse is apparent in their lives and the positive outcomes that action will bring.

Educational Objectives
By the end of the learning experience students will be able to:
Identify abusive situations
Identify symptoms of abuse in others
Have a basic understanding of the Safeguarding network

Suffering Children in Power wants to move abuse and the combat of abuse forward in children’s educational agenda. Society agrees that the abuse of children is despicable and the statistics speak for them selves with regard to its prevalence and negative outcome.

Suffering Children in Powers intervention will:
facilitate schools adherence to the Education Act 2002 and the spirit of the Every Child Maters paper facilitate schools inclusion of a very sensitive and essential subject in their learning rota ensure children receive accurate, appropriately positioned information regarding abuse, its outcomes and positive action options if abusive behaviour makes itself apparent.

The tour begins in secondary schools in 2007.
